Verify Your Service Provider for Permits

The City of Lawndale contracts with LA County Building & Safety for services such as inspections, permit issuance, and plan check. The City of Lawndale is not a satellite office for LA County Building & Safety services outside of the city limits.

Note: The unincorporated area of El Camino Village is not serviced by the City of Lawndale. This area is serviced by LA County Building & Safety - Southwest Office

Location and Office Hours

Monday – Thursday: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays: Closed

Permitted Construction Hours

You can conduct construction work between the following times. Work conducted outside of these hours may result in the issuance of a stop work notice and code enforcement action.

  • Monday - Friday: from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday and City observed holidays: No work allowed!

General Information

Contractors:

Have your driver’s license/ID, contractor’s license, and an active City business license attached to your applications.

Permit runners, or authorized agents, must provide a copy of their own driver’s license/ID along with a valid notarized authorization letter.

Owner-Builders:

To qualify as an owner-builder, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Reside at the subject property for a minimum of one year; and

  2. The subject property must be the owner’s primary residence. Landlords not living on the subject property do not qualify to pull permits as owner-builder.
Those who qualify to pull a permit as an owner-builder must provide a copy of their driver’s license/ID and a copy of a current utility bill that is:
  1. under their name; and

  2. addressed to the subject property.
Please Note:

*These procedures are only required when applying for Building Permits. Planning Permits are exempt from these procedures.

The following streets are not in the City of Lawndale, but in fact, are in El Camino Village/Alondra Park, which is serviced by LA County (see LA County Service Locator).
